Wine and vinegar are produced by grapes. They don't contribute directly to your power or points, but can be used strategically to increase your chances of winning the game.
Wine is the first line of defense against an opponent''s vinegar. If your wine is greater than your vinegar, you're considered "shielded". Being shielded means any vinegar thrown at you will hit your wine shield rather than reduce your own vinegar total. If your vinegar is greater than your wine your shield isn't active, and any vinegar thrown at you will deduct from your total vinegar. Even a tiny bit of vinegar can spoil your wine, if another ranker throws any vinegar while you're shielded your wine count will drop to 0.
Vinegar is the more offensive side of your grape's production. Your vinegar can be used to throw down a ranker without autopromote in the top position of the ladder who is past the ladder's base point requirement. A throw which drops the targets vinegar to 0 resets their points and power and decreases their multi by 1. You can choose to throw anywhere between 25%-100% of your total vinegar each throw.
Vinegar can be used to throw at the ranker that is at the top-1 position of the ladder. There are a couple of requirements for the top ranker to be targetted by a throw:
The ranker_requirement for unlocking promotion for the current ladder should be met.
Every ladder has a requirement of minimum amount of rankers to unlock the promotion. This value equals 10 for Ladders 1 to 10, and equals ladder_number for Ladders 11+ (13 for L13, 15 for L15 and so on).
For example, if the current amount of rankers on L15 is 13 and the top-1 ranker has already met the Ladder Base Point Requirement - the
button will remain greyed out.
The top-1 ranker does not have Autopromote bought/awarded.
If the top-1 ranker has autopromote bought/awarded, the promotion will happen immediately and throwing vinegar will not be possible.
Vinegar also can be used for defending against throws.
When a ranker throws their vinegar, the amount thrown is compared to the target's wine and vinegar.
If the vinegar thrown is greater than the target's wine, the target will lose all their wine and the target's vinegar will be reduced based on the amount of overflow. If the overflow is greater than the target's vinegar, it's a succesful throw: The target loses all points and power and has their mult reduced by 1. The thrower also receives a refund equal to 25% of their total pre-throw vinegar (Not 25% of the amount they threw!).
If the overflow is less than the target's vinegar, it will still reduce the target's vinegar total, with the effectiveness scaling with the percent thrown. A 50% throw that is greater than a ranker's wine shield and overflows will only reduce the target's vinegar with half the effectiveness per point of vinegar (for example 100 overflow on a 50% throw would only reduce the target's vinegar by 50). In this case, the thrower only receives a 12.5% refund of their total pre-throw vinegar.
If the amount thrown is less than target's wine, all the throw does is reduce the target's wine to 0, and the thrower receives no refund.
If a target's wine is less than their vinegar, they're unshielded. The thrown vinegar is applied directly to the target's vinegar. If the amount thrown is greater than the target's vinegar, it's a succesful throw (the target loses their points and power, and 1 multi). The thrower receives a 12.5% refund of their total pre-throw vinegar, and an extra 12.5 percent if the overflow amount is greater than twice the target's wine, but an unshielded target's wine remains untouched even on a succesful throw.
If the target's vinegar is greater than the amount thrown, the thrown vinegar will reduce the target's vinegar by an amount scaling with the percent thrown. (100% throws are fully effective, but a 25% throw would mean it takes 4 points of thrown vinegar to reduce the target's vinegar by 1). The thrower receives no refund on their thrown vinegar.
Each grape you have can produce 4 wine or 1 vinegar every second. You can set the ratio of your grapes production by clicking the small button with a bottle on it next to the tutorial button on the bottom of the page.
When a ranker is in first position (top of the ladder) they will not gain any wine or vinegar, in addition to not gaining power.
If the promotion is unlocked and ranker is currently in first position without autopromotion active, their wine and vinegar will be reduced by 0.25% of their current totals every second.
The first ranker to promote out of a ladder gains an 20% boost to the current wine and vinegar counts.
